NEW DELHI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of five restaurants operating at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) premises in Mumbai over serious food safety and hygiene violations, officials said. The inspections uncovered rotten raw food, poor sanitation and improper temperature control.According to details released by the FDA, the action was taken against the Permit Room, Pavilion, Mediterranean, Oriental Swing, and Clubway & Pastry Counter at the MCA. The establishments were found to have violated several food safety norms, including inadequate hygiene practices and improper handling and storage of food.During the inspections, officials found rotten raw food, poor general sanitation and improper freezing temperature control. Food handlers were also found not wearing gloves, raising concerns over the risk of contamination.The FDA has also suspended the licence of Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Society Limited in Kurla, which operated a mid-day meal canteen. Officials cited poor general hygiene and housekeeping, along with structural and sanitation-related deficiencies.

The inspection reportedly found dirt and grease accumulated on walls and ceilings, cracked floors where water and food waste had pooled, and inadequate pest-exclusion barriers at the premises.Separately, the FDA suspended the licence of Cafe Cadel in Mahim over violations related to ventilation, pest control and food equipment standards. Officials also found a lack of records documenting water testing.The action comes as food safety authorities continue inspections of eateries and food establishments to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety requirements. The suspensions mean the affected establishments cannot operate under their existing food licences until the violations are addressed and the necessary regulatory requirements are met.
