It seems actor Tom Cruise is joining NASCAR for his upcoming project! The actor recently revealed that he will return to the big screen with the ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel. The first film, starring Cruise as Cole Trickle, was released in 1990. He also shared news of a special star joining the upcoming sequel.
Tom Cruise confirms ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel
In an Instagram post, he shared a video with Anne Hathaway, announcing they are doing the ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel together. The two wore simple button-ups and blue jeans; the ‘Mother Mary’ star also wore a cowboy hat as they discussed whether the camera was on.As they walked back, Hathaway and Cruise revealed a yellow race car behind them with the words “Days of Thunder, Summer 2028” written on it. Deadline further reported that Jonathan Levine will direct the film; he has also worked on many other popular projects like ‘Warm Bodies,’ ’50/50,’ ‘Long Shot,’ ‘Snatched,’ and ‘The Night Before.’ Will Staples has joined the project to write the script for the sequel.The sequel will be filmed specifically for IMAX screens and is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on June 2, 2028.

The film follows the story of the hotshot driver Cole Trickle, played by Tom Cruise. He transitions from open-wheel racing to NASCAR stock car racing and navigates rivalries, romance, and a crash that could have almost ended his career. The original film was released in 1990 and also starred Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Don Simpson, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, and many others. The original film was directed by Tony Scott.On the work front, Cruise will next appear in a completely new avatar in the film ‘Digger,’ which will be released in October. Hathaway, on the other hand, has been on a roll this year. She released ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ ‘Mother Mary,’ ‘The Odyssey,’ ‘The End of Oak Street,’ and another upcoming film titled ‘Verity,’ which is also being released in October. She is also starring in ‘Alone at Dawn,’ an upcoming film, along with working on a ‘Princess Diaries 3’ project.
