NEW DELHI: BJP and Congress chiefs Sunday sparred over PM Narendra Modi’s ‘naraaz fufa’ (disgruntled uncle) jibe at opponents and critics, with Mallikarjun Kharge questioning the PM’s use of such labels and Nitin Nabin responding that his counterpart’s criticism was yet another confirmation of his party’s negative mindset.In a post on X in Hindi, Kharge said, “Modi ji’s modus operandi is to suppress questions in a democracy and give the opposition a new adjective every year so that his own failures remain hidden! Naraaz fufa, dimagi Naxal, urban Naxal, Khan Market gang, andolan-jeevi, parjeevi…” The adjectives for the opposition may keep changing, but Modi govt’s “anti-people policies” do not change, Kharge added.

He asked the govt to listen to ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ as solutions won’t come from beating around the bush.In response to this, Nabin justified the PM’s colloquial jibe saying the opposition has indeed been acting like that one uncle in the family who always sulks and can never see or appreciate good things. “There are some people who remain dissatisfied within the family and the society and can never think positively. It was precisely this set that the PM referred to when he said ‘naraaz fufa’,” Nabin said.The BJP president said that the opposition has not appreciated Modi govt’s success in tackling terrorism or in bringing more than 25 crore people out of poverty. “I want to know why they get angry when Modi govt scraps special status for J&K, controls terrorism, or eliminates Maoism.” They promised to abolish poverty but failed. But why should they get angry when Modi govt has realised what was promised by them? he asked.Nabin accused Kharge of failing to see the reality of things because “you are totally immersed in pursuing your own selfish interests”.
