Om Birla bats for women's quota amid buzz over fresh govt push

NEW DELHI: Amid buzz that govt may revive the women’s reservation bill for early implementation with delimitation, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Monday called 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies a “historic need”, saying it would open new avenues for women in political leadership.“One-third reservation for women will open new avenues for women in political leadership,” he said at an event hosted by National Commission for Women. The day is not far when they will account for over 50% participation in public services, he added.
