NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday demanded safety audits of all paying guest accommodations in student-dominated areas and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) commissioner’s resignation, linking the Satya Niketan tragedy to alleged administrative lapses and Delhi University’s shortage of hostels.The organisation said thousands of students joined its ‘Student Safety March’ from DU’s Rugby Ground to the Arts Faculty, raising the slogan “Aakhir Kab Tak?” It sought immediate safety and structural checks of PGs and action against operators and building owners violating norms.ABVP urged DU to construct new hostels and expand existing capacity, arguing that inadequate campus accommodation forced students to depend on unsafe PGs and rented buildings. It said the Satya Niketan incident should not be treated as an isolated accident and demanded that responsibility be fixed.“Students come to Delhi from across the country with the hope of building their future. They should not have to risk their lives simply because they cannot find safe accommodation,” ABVP national general secretary Virendra Singh Solanki said.

“The MCD administration must answer for these failures, and the MCD Commissioner should resign,” he added.ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma said audits must be followed by immediate action against violations, while the hostel shortage should be addressed on priority. “Students need safe accommodation, not assurances after every tragedy,” he said, adding that the organisation would continue its campaign until concrete action was taken.DU Students’ Union president Aryan Maan said safe housing and adequate hostels had been longstanding demands of both organisations. He said they would step up efforts to secure new hostels and expand existing facilities, giving students an alternative to poorly regulated PGs and rented accommodation.“Student safety cannot remain a promise made after every tragedy; it must be built into the system,” he said.
