Rajkiran faces Rs 40 lakh case as producer’s complaint leads to anticipatory bail plea, moves Madras HC

Veteran Tamil actor Rajkiran has approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a money-related case registered against him. The case follows a complaint by a film producer over an alleged unpaid amount linked to an advance given for a proposed film. According to Rajkiran, this dispute is purely civil in nature, and he has raised his objections to the criminal cases brought against him.

Rajkiran faces case over Rs 40 lakh film advance

As per a report aired on Polimer News, the case pertains to a Rs 50 lakh advance which Rajkiran received from Saravanan, a producer from Chennai, for a film project in 2022. According to the complaint, the film did not begin as planned, following which the producer sought the return of the advance. After discussions through the Producers’ Council, Rajkiran reportedly returned Rs 10 lakh in 2025, while the remaining Rs 40 lakh was allegedly not settled. The producer subsequently approached the authorities seeking action over the pending amount.

Rajkiran calls dispute civil issue, opposes criminal proceedings

Following an order from the Ponneri Magistrate Court, police registered a case against Rajkiran at the Minjur police station on August 28. The actor has now moved the Madras High Court, expressing concern that the police could arrest him in connection with the complaint. In his anticipatory bail petition, Rajkiran has argued that the dispute arose several years after the original agreement and does not warrant criminal proceedings. “After four years of entering into the agreement, this case has now been filed unnecessarily. This is completely a civil issue, but a criminal colour has been deliberately given to it,” his petition reportedly stated.

Rajkiran’s anticipatory bail plea awaiting Madras High Court hearing

Rajkiran’s plea is expected to come up for hearing before the Madras High Court. The veteran actor is seeking protection from arrest while contesting the allegations made by the producer. The matter has attracted attention in Tamil cinema circles because of Rajkiran’s long career as both a leading man and character actor. Known for films such as ‘En Rasavin Manasile’ and ‘Aranmanai Kili,’ he later appeared in prominent character roles in movies including ‘Nandha,’ ‘Sandakozhi,’ and ‘Pa Paandi.’ The court’s decision on his anticipatory bail plea will determine the next step in the case.
