UP in SC: Magistrate who sent notice to student suspended

NEW DELHI: UP govt informed Supreme Court Thursday that it has suspended the executive magistrate who issued a peace bond notice to a second-year law student in Noida for participating in the NEET-UG paper leak student protest and clarified that the district magistrate had no role in the offending action. This information was given by solicitor general Tushar Mehta when a counsel mentioned that the law student has filed a petition challenging the action of the executive magistrate despite clear orders from SC on Sept 1 quashing all FIRs, banning fresh FIRs and taking any coercive step against students. The counsel said that a message must go to IAS and IPS officers on how to comply with SC orders. When the counsel repeatedly referred to the district magistrate, Mehta said: “It was some other officer, who has been suspended by govt. Let us not sensationalise the incident.”
