New Delhi : Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim gave the 18th BRICS Summit an unexpected Bollywood moment on Saturday, singing Kishore Kumar’s popular “Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat” at the gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam.Anwar’s rendition of the 1965 song from Teen Devian quickly became a talking point beyond the summit’s formal agenda, with the video drawing attention on social media. The Malaysian leader is known for his interest in Indian cinema and music, adding a cultural touch to an evening otherwise dominated by diplomacy and geopolitics.

The musical interlude came on the first day of the two-day summit, which brought together leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Malaysia participated as a BRICS partner country.Earlier on Saturday, BRICS leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration, addressing issues including the conflicts in West Asia, multilateralism and the impact of unilateral sanctions and trade measures. For a summit focused on global conflicts, economic resilience and a changing world order, Anwar’s Kishore Kumar moment offered a rather different kind of diplomacy — one that needed no communique.
