NEW DELHI: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday alleged that several candidates from her party were “forcibly defeated” in the municipal elections held in Rajasthan.In a social media post on X, Mayawati said that the BSP candidates lost by razor thin margins during recounts due to irregularities involving government machinery.“In the local body elections held in Rajasthan, the BSP has also won 19 seats this time by getting its councillors elected, and many candidates have been forcibly defeated by small margins of votes during the recounting because of the irregularities of the government machinery. Otherwise, the party could have got an even better result here. For this, the party has given heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the small and big office-bearers and workers of the BSP,” Mayawati said.“However, before this, in the local body elections held in Punjab and some other states of the country, the party also got a better result than before, and they too deserve congratulations,” she added.She further said that the results have increased party’s hope for better performance in the upcoming assembly elections and general elections.“It is hoped that in the upcoming assembly elections there and the Lok Sabha general elections in the country, all these people will ensure an even better result for their party,” she said.This comes after BJP emerged as the leading party in Rajasthan’s urban local body elections.BJP secured 4,179 wards, compared with 3,613 won by Congress, and obtained clear majorities in four of the state’s 10 municipal corporations.The Congress, however, secured a majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation and registered a significant victory in the Jhalawar Municipal Council, which is considered a stronghold of former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

Out of the total votes polled across 309 civic bodies, the BJP secured 35.18 per cent (37,35,567 votes) compared to Congress’s 34.24 per cent (36,35,952 votes), yielding a razor-thin winning margin of just 0.94 per cent (99,615 votes).Among the remaining contenders, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party secured 0.94 per cent (1,00,277 votes), the Aam Aadmi Party managed to get 0.46 per cent (49,829 votes), CPM secured 0.32 per cent (34,170 votes) and the Bharat Adivasi Party recorded 0.13 per cent (14,150 votes).
