NEW DELHI: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General NS Raja Subramani on Saturday said “as technology is changing, it is not the most brilliant person but the person who has the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, ability to learn, and ability to change with the times will succeed”. Addressing graduates at the IIT Roorkee convocation, the CDS said “Bharat is not a geography. It is a responsibility which generations before you have carried, and you will carry as you navigate this world.”Explaining the meaning of ‘BHARAT’, Gen Subramani said, ‘B’ stands for build. Be a builder, don’t just be a technology consumer; be a technology creator; ‘H’ stands for harness, harness the power of technology, the power of AI, the power of space, the power of your intelligence, and harness the power of your teams; ‘A’ stands for adaptability, which I have already spoken about, adapt to the world, adapt to changing circumstances; ‘R’ stands for research, research must have outcomes. It has to be related to what the country requires; and ‘A stands for Atmanirbharta (self-reliance).”Explaining the last alphabet in BHARAT, Gen Subramani said, “’T’ stands for taking responsibility. Take responsibility for yourself, take responsibility for your actions, and take responsibility to contribute, even in a small measure, to take our nation forward.”

“If each one of us contributes like the droplets of a river, the nation will continue to move forward, grow, and achieve the dream of Viksit Bharat 2047,” he told students. He urged future engineers and technologists to focus on developing resilient systems.The CDS also introduced the acronym “DHARA” to describe the transformations shaping the world. “I want to speak about the changing world, and I’ll give you an acronym for that. That is Dhara. What I mean by Dhara is D – disruptive; H – hyper-connectedness; A – asymmetry; R – realignment; and A – autonomy.”“The world is undergoing enormous disruption. Technology is changing faster than we can catch up. You, as graduates, will have to learn, unlearn, relearn, adapt, and remain curious throughout if you want to keep up with the changing world,” Gen Subramani said.
