Veteran Tamil actor Radha has filed a police complaint against her sister and actor Ambika and their brother Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair. Radha has alleged that signed blank cheques kept at her Chennai residence were taken without her knowledge and later used in an attempt to claim around Rs 46 crore.

Radha files police complaint against Ambika, brother

As per a report by India Today Digital, the complaint was submitted to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner on September 21. According to the complaint, Radha maintained an IDBI Bank current account for business-related expenses and had kept some signed blank cheques at her residence.

Radha alleges old cheques were used

She said the cheques were kept for routine payments such as salaries, utility bills, taxes and garden maintenance, especially when she was travelling.She explained that the account was earlier operated under the name ARS Garden Studio. After the business was renamed RR Gardens in January 2025, she received a new cheque book and stopped using the old one. According to her complaint, Radha had forgotten that the old signed cheques were still at her Chennai home.

Five cheques presented in Ambika’s name

Radha claimed that she was alerted to the issue on September 17, when her bank informed her that five of the old cheques had been presented for encashment for around Rs 46 crore in Ambika’s name.She said she immediately instructed the bank to stop payment. Radha has also alleged that she had not given the cheques to Ambika and had not entered into any financial arrangement with her that would require such payments.Radha further alleged that their brother Mallikarjuna filled in the cheques and claimed that the two acted together to use the documents for unlawful financial gain.

Radha raises property access concerns

Additionally, the complaint also mentions a dispute over access to family property. Radha has alleged that she has been prevented from entering the property for around a year and a half.She claimed that valuables, jewellery, property documents and other records are kept there. Radha has asked the police to investigate the allegations and take criminal action if the charges are established.The allegations in the complaint have not been adjudicated, and the police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the cheques and their presentation.

Radha and Ambika’s film careers

Speaking of Radha’s career, she made her acting debut with Bharathiraja’s ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’ in 1981 and became one of the leading heroines of Tamil cinema during the 1980s. She went on to share screen with Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan and others. She also worked extensively in Telugu and Malayalam cinema.On the other hand, her sister Ambika also became a well known actor in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada cinema.
