Trafalgar Square often invites buskers and street artists to showcase their talents. During one such busking event, a South Korean musician was singing and playing the guitar to the tune of one of Coldplay’s most famous songs, ‘Viva la Vida’. However, after a bit, as crowds gathered to listen, another voice joined him, none other than the singer of the original song, Chris Martin!
South Korean busker gets surprised by impromptu duet with Chris Martin
In videos that had been shared online by passersby and people who had been listening to Hanny Junee, who had been playing the song in the central area, a magical moment was captured as Martin joined the fellow musician in front of everyone. As people realised who he was and started cheering, both Junee and Martin could be seen belting out the lyrics to ‘Viva La Vida’ while he played the guitar.Later, while talking to the BBC about the incident, the musician did not even figure out that the actual Chris Martin had joined him for the duet. He thought that another passerby had joined in and that the person had a really great voice. He further shared, “I thought, ‘This guy has amazing energy, a nice vibe, and a really good voice; he sounds really similar to Chris Martin.’” But I thought, ‘Come on, Hanny, don’t be ridiculous; of course it’s not him. Chris Martin doesn’t roam the streets of London. ‘Then he finished a verse, and the next thing I know, he’s gone. It was magical.”He added that other people had to come tell him that it had been Chris Martin, saying, “Afterwards some people came up to me and told me it really was Chris Martin. It was amazing; it was like we connected purely through music, not fame.”He even shared videos of the duet on his Instagram account, along with the caption, “When Chris Martin randomly joins your busking in London… I was playing ‘Viva La Vida’ as my last song at Trafalgar Square, and Chris Martin literally walked up and sang with me?! Still can‘t believe this happened. Thank you, Chris, for the most unforgettable moment of my life!”During the interview, he shared that the audience had chosen for him to play ‘Viva la Vida,’ which ended up being a blessing for him. He added that he usually does busking events around Covent Garden, the London Eye, and Trafalgar Square.Chris Martin is well known for holding random concerts and surprising fans. In August 2025, he was spotted at a small pub in West Yorkshire, where he sang his heart out in a surprise gig, which left everyone in shock. Other than that, back in June 2022, he performed a song for a couple about to get married at a pub near Bath.
