NEW DELHI: India produced another strong medal haul at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, winning eight medals across athletics, shooting and kurash. However, the impressive collection did not bring any change in the overall standings, with India remaining 12th as the country continued to wait for another gold medal.India added four silver and four bronze medals during the day but could not increase its gold tally. Eight medals, but no gold for India

India’s strongest showing came in the men’s javelin, where Yashvir and Rohit produced a double podium finish in the absence of defending champion Neeraj Chopra.Yashvir recorded a personal best of 85.72m for silver, while Rohit won bronze with 84.35m. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage claimed gold with 88.55m.Sreeshankar also won silver in the men’s long jump with 8.07m despite an injury forcing him to abandon his final two attempts. China’s Yuhao Shi took gold with 8.17m.Gulveer added his second silver of the Games with a personal best of 3:36.72 in the men’s 1500m, having earlier finished runner-up in the 10,000m.Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 5000m with 15:14.61, adding to the bronze she had claimed in the 3000m steeplechase.Vithya Ramraj also took bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles with a personal best of 54.75 seconds.

Shooting and kurash add to India’s tally

Esha Singh secured silver in the women’s 25m pistol after finishing with 38 hits, the same score as China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan, who won the gold after the shoot-off.Pincky Balhara added bronze in the women’s -78kg kurash category, losing 0-5 to South Korea’s Sumin Mo in the semifinals.Despite the eight medals, India’s gold tally remained at four, a crucial factor in the standings as countries are ranked by gold medals first.China led with 132 golds, followed by Japan with 41, South Korea with 21 and Uzbekistan with 12. India remained 12th with 45 medals, highlighting how a large haul of silver and bronze medals has yet to translate into a significant rise in the standings.
