IIT Bombay suicide: What Professor Suryanaraya Doolla told investigators during eight-hour questioning
IIT Bombay has sent Professor Doolla on leave

NEW DELHI: IIT Bombay Professor Suryanarayana Doolla told the Mumbai Police Crime Branch that he had followed the institute’s prescribed guidelines and procedures while dealing with student Sahil Wakode, who later died by suicide in his hostel room.Also Read | IIT Bombay suicide: Prof Suryanarayana Doolla grilled for 8 hours, denies harassment allegationsDoolla, who was sent on leave by IIT Bombay following widespread student protests, was questioned for around eight to 10 hours on the institute’s Powai campus on Friday.During his statement, Doolla told the Crime Branch that he had followed IIT Bombay’s guidelines and procedures in his handling of the events that preceded Wakode’s death.Wakode was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester examination on September 18. Doolla, who was invigilating the exam, asked him to leave the examination hall.The student died by suicide later that day.Doolla also denied allegations that he subjected Wakode to caste-based discrimination and mental harassment, as alleged by the student’s parents. The parents has named the professor and several others in their complaint and have demanded his arrest.
