Actress Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray legendary Carnatic vocalist and Bharat Ratna recipient M.S. Subbulakshmi in the upcoming pan-India biopic ‘MS – A Legacy On Screen’. The film is being directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.The project will explore different chapters from M.S. Subbulakshmi’s life and career. Rashmika Mandanna will step into the role of the celebrated singer for the ambitious screen adaptation.The actress recently shared a glimpse of the project through a series of photographs on Instagram. The first image showed M.S. Subbulakshmi’s photograph, with Rashmika Mandanna seen taking blessings in front of it.The rest of the carousel featured photographs from an event associated with the film. The singer’s contribution to Carnatic music was recognised with India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.

Rashmika Mandanna undergoes Carnatic vocal training

According to Deccan Chronicle, Rashmika Mandanna is undergoing intensive Carnatic vocal training for the role. The preparation is intended to help her bring authenticity to her portrayal of M.S. Subbulakshmi.The makers had initially discussed whether Rashmika Mandanna could sing for the film herself. Another possibility involved using original recordings of M.S. Subbulakshmi while the actress performed the lip-sync.The latter option was eventually abandoned after the team found it impractical. Rashmika Mandanna’s vocal training has consequently become an important part of her preparation.
