3 lose vision after surgery in Maharashtra hospital

Chandrapur: Health authorities in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur suspended registration of Bramhapuri’s Christanand Hospital and sealed its operation theatre and inpatient department after allegations that post-cataract surgery infections left at least three patients with severe vision loss. Action was taken Monday by civil surgeon Dr Mahadev Chinchole after a preliminary inquiry found violations of the Bombay Nursing Home Act, 1949, and lapses in ophthalmic care standards. The missionary-run hospital faced complaints after cataract surgeries led to infections and permanent vision loss. Officials found surgeries were done without authorised eye-care beds, violating norms. The hospital said admissions were halted and it is cooperating with the probe.
