NEW DELHI: TMC’s Reyat Hussain Sarkar is in contest with CPI-M’s Mahamudal Hasan and BJP’s Bhaskar Sarkar for the constituency of Bhagawangola in the 2026 assembly elections. Reyat Hussain Sarkar won by a margin of 56,000-plus votes, beating Hasan. BJP’s Sarkar came third with around 23,000 votes.There were a total of 2,24,618 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Bhagawangola Assembly constituency, of whom 1,14,659 were male, 1,09,958 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.West Bengal voted across 294 seats in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent — the highest since Independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history. Notably, the surge was not limited to rural strongholds but saw a dramatic rise in urban centres, with women voters outpacing men to drive the record participation.Bhagawangola is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed significant political shifts over the years, reflecting changing voter preferences.In the 2021 Assembly elections, Bhagawangola had 263,765 registered electors, of whom 225,990 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Idris Ali, who secured 153,795 votes. Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Md. Kamal Hossain finished second with 47,787 votes, trailing by a margin of 106,008 votes.In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 179,224 electors, with 162,748 valid votes recorded. Samajwadi Party candidate Chand Mohammad won the seat with 62,862 votes, while TMC candidate Sagir Hossain came second with 49,528 votes, losing by a margin of 13,334 votes.
