The copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and the makers of Dhurandhar 2 over the song ‘Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)’ has taken a new turn. The Delhi High Court was informed that mediation between both sides has failed. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has now listed the matter for hearing on May 8, as reported by Bar and Bench.
What is the dispute?
Trimurti Films has alleged that the song ‘Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)’ in Dhurandhar 2 uses the composition of ‘Tirchi Topiwala’ from the 1989 film Tridev without permission. The original song, featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Sonam Khan, was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji along with Viju Shah with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee. Trimurti Films has claimed this amounts to copyright infringement and has objected to its use in the film and promotions.
What did the makers say?
Super Cassettes Industries, which holds the audio rights, opposed any interim relief. They said Trimurti Films has not been fully transparent and has ignored earlier similar cases.Producer B62 Films told the court that the film has already released in theatres and may come to OTT platforms only by mid-May.The court had earlier sent the matter for mediation, but no settlement was reached. The case will now be heard on May 8. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge stars Ranveer Singh in the lead and serves as a sequel to Dhurandhar (2025). The film explores the origin story of his character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, charting his transformation into Hamza Ali Mazari and his rise within Lyari’s underworld while carrying out a larger mission. The ensemble cast includes Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, with Danish Pandor and Udaybir Sandhu in key roles. The film also features a cameo by Yami Gautam.
