In a dazzling display of appreciation, BTS was welcomed with open arms in Mexico City, where President Claudia Sheinbaum praised their powerful messages of unity and positivity. The iconic Zocalo square came alive with a sea of purple, as tens of thousands of dedicated fans, affectionately known as ARMY, gathered to celebrate.

BTS received a royal welcome in Mexico City on Wednesday, May 6, as the group visited Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace before its three-night ‘ARIRANG’ tour stop. The members later stepped out onto the palace balcony and greeted nearly 50,000 fans gathered below. The moment added to the citywide excitement around the group’s return, with fans turning the visit into a purple celebration across the capital.

BTS meets Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum

According to AFP, President Claudia Sheinbaum had confirmed the meeting earlier in the day during her regular press briefing. She called BTS a group that “always carries messages of friendship, peace, and love.” Her words reflected her long-time support for the band. In January, when the Mexico City concert dates were announced, Sheinbaum called it a “historic moment” and said young Mexicans had been waiting eagerly for BTS’ return.V, Suga and Jimin were seen with Sheinbaum on the balcony of the National Palace at Zocalo square in Mexico City. Fans outside held signs that read, “BTS will always be in the heart of Mexico” and “Welcome to Mexico.” Many cried as the members appeared, while others raised their phones to capture the moment.

BTS Mexico concerts create fan frenzy

The BTS fever has spread across Mexico City ahead of the shows. AFP reported that fans recently gathered along Paseo de la Reforma for a promotional event. They danced to BTS songs, showed off temporary tattoos and turned the street into a pre-concert celebration.According to BigHit Music, Mexico is the fifth-largest market for K-pop globally, with BTS leading as the country’s most popular K-pop act. The group will perform at Estadio GNP Seguros on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. All three concerts sold out soon after tickets went live.BTS returned from military service in June last year. The members later prepared for their album ‘Arirang’ in Los Angeles, and the album was released this March. The tour has already given fans several talking points, from surprise “gems” from earlier eras to fresh choreography. Fans are still discussing how Tampa got to see ‘Pied Piper,’ one of the group’s most loved tracks. Many are now waiting to see which city gets another fan favorite, ‘Anpanman.
