Ranveer Singh has not acquired rights of 'The Immortals Of Meluha', clarifies Amish Tripathi: 'I have huge respect...'

Rumours about a film adaptation of ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ recently created buzz on social media after reports claimed that Ranveer Singh had acquired the rights to the bestselling mythological fantasy novel after the success of ‘Dhurandhar 2’. It was also speculated that the actor planned to turn the story into a large-scale trilogy and would essay the role of Lord Shiva on screen. However, author Amish Tripathi has now denied these claims, clarifying that no deal has been finalised for the adaptation rights. Amish told Variety India, “The rights for the Shiva Trilogy are with me. And nothing has been signed with anyone as yet. Of course, I have huge respect for Ranveer, and am a big fan of his. But this news is not true.”

Earlier, a Pinkvilla report had suggested that the adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha was in its writing phase, with Ranveer and Ananya Birla reportedly collaborating on the ambitious project. According to the report, the makers envisioned the franchise as a three-part cinematic universe.“Ranveer has been passionate about bringing Meluha to the big screen for a long time now. The acquisition happened recently, and the project is now officially under development. Makers are approaching the franchise as a long-term cinematic universe and the plan is to tell the story over 3 films. The writing work has already begun, and the team is taking its time to crack the screenplay and world-building. The first part is expected to go on floors in 2028,” a source told the portal. The report further claimed that Ranveer was expected to headline the trilogy as Lord Shiva, while the remaining cast had not yet been locked. The focus, reportedly, remains on developing the screenplay before finalising a director. “The director will only be locked once the script work reaches a certain stage. Right now, the focus is entirely on developing the material,” the source added.Reports also stated that the actor had secured the rights for a substantial amount, though the exact figure was not disclosed. Before potentially stepping into the world of Meluha, Ranveer is expected to begin work on Pralay and filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s next directorial venture, both of which are reportedly in the pipeline.
