Imtiaz Ali reveals Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are showing ‘Jab We Met’ to their kids but Mira Rajput prefers ‘Tamasha’
Imtiaz Ali shared that Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are introducing their children to ‘Jab We Met’, delighting the director. He recalled its censor approval and legacy. Interestingly, Mira Rajput prefers his films ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’. The 2007 classic grew into a beloved cult, with performances by Shahid and Kareena.

Almost twenty years after it first released, ‘Jab We Met’ is finding a whole new audience, the kids of its own stars. Director Imtiaz Ali could not hide his joy when he heard about it, but also revealed a fun little detail along the way. Shahid Kapoor‘s wife Mira is actually not a ‘Jab We Met’ fan and instead prefers Imtiaz’s other films, ‘Tamasha’ or ‘Rockstar’, both of which feature Ranbir Kapoor.

Imtiaz Ali recalls the censor screening of ‘Jab We Met’

Talking to Pinkvilla, Imtiaz Ali recalled, “It makes me feel nice that Shahid’s kids and Kareena’s kids are watching their film Jab We Met. It’s the only movie I remember after the screening. I went in after the censor screening and asked what certificate they were giving it. They said clean, no arguments or anything.”

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor independently chose ‘Jab We Met’ as the first film for their kids

In an old interview, Shahid once shared that ‘Jab We Met’ was the very first film he showed his children. What made it even more special was that Kareena said the exact same thing around the same time. Both lead actors from the beloved 2007 film, now parents themselves, independently chose it as the first movie for their kids. When Imtiaz heard this, it clearly meant the world to him. He added: “I’m really glad that Kareena and Shahid are showing it to their kids.

Imtiaz Ali reveals Mira Rajput is a Rockstar and Tamasha fan, not a ‘Jab We Met’ one

He also shared something fun about what Mira likes to watch. It turns out she is not a big ‘Jab We Met’ fan and prefers other films from Imtiaz’s collection. He said: “I think Mira likes Rockstar way more than Jab We Met. She’s a fan of Rockstar and Tamasha, I think Mira in particular also sang a song for me when I went to his house one day. And that wasn’t Shahid’s song.”

About ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’ — two of Imtiaz Ali’s most loved films

Released in 2011, ‘Rockstar’ remains one of Imtiaz Ali’s most powerful films, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri and music by AR Rahman. ‘Tamasha’, which released in 2015 with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, had a slower start but won hearts over time and is now considered a cult film.

‘Jab We Met’ a slow burn that became one of Bollywood’s most loved films

‘Jab We Met’ released in October 2007 and did not make a big splash on day one but grew into something much bigger over time. Shahid played Aditya Kashyap, a man so broken and withdrawn that he barely speaks while Geet takes over every scene. It is the role that people still connect with him the most from that chapter of his life, the one he keeps getting asked about, and the one he calls Imtiaz’s greatest work. Kareena played the unforgettable Geet Dhillon, a girl who was loud, a little scattered, full of life, and totally unapologetically herself.
