Nicolas Cage changes his official name to avoid being a ‘clown cousin’; says, ‘ I’m Nick Cage in life’

Nicolas Cage, the generational actor who changed the Hollywood landscape, has a new official name. Drum rolls, please! It’s Nicolas Cage. The prominent actor, who was previously known as Nicolas Kim Coppola, changed his government name to his renowned showbiz credit name. The move was marked with the intention of rather being a patriarch of his own Cage line, than being a ‘clown cousin’ of the Coppola family.

Nicolas Cage reveals his official name

When asked about the inspiration for keeping ‘Cage’ as the surname for show business, whether the influence was of the superhero Luke Cage, the 62-year-old actor revealed the truth. He said, “I changed my name legally last year. I’m Nick Cage in life, and I’m Nick Cage on camera,” before stunningly adding, “‘Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else’s, so I decided I’m going to bring it on and be ‘Cage.’” Furthermore, he opined on what he really thinks about his entire name.

Nicolas Cage recalls his thoughts on changing his name

The title Cage came from growing up reading comics, which led him to think it was a cool name. With his childhood of being a part of an artsy, avant-garde family, there were many conversations about the compositions by John Cage. While he wanted to keep the names short, like James Dean, he contemplated keeping his first name, Nicolas. His father named him with a French spelling, “which has always frustrated me, because everyone adds an ‘h.’ I don’t know why he gave me the French spelling! But he did,” he added.

About Nicolas Cage

In Cage’s professional realm, he stars as Ben Reilly, a private investigator in Depression-era New York City from the 1930s, in ‘Spider-Noir.’ The series has been released on May 27, 206, only on Prime Video. Giving a unique twist, the viewers can choose to watch in authentic black-and-white mode or true-hue color.
