Pooja Bhatt admits she shared a ‘spark’ with Aamir Khan during Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin shoot, but ‘nothing tangible happened’

Pooja Bhatt recently revisited her Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin days with Aamir Khan and admitted that while the two shared a “spark” and undeniable chemistry during the filming of the 1991 romantic drama, it never turned into a real-life relationship. In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Pooja candidly spoke about her bond with Aamir, his perfectionist streak, and the playful friendship they shared on set.

‘We were totally in love when the camera was rolling’

Speaking about their chemistry during the shoot, Pooja said she genuinely enjoyed working with Aamir and acknowledged the strong connection they shared on screen.“I found Aamir Khan delightful. Aamir and I were totally in love with each other when the camera was rolling during Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin,” she said. When asked if there was attraction between them at the time, considering tabloids frequently linked the two actors, Pooja responded with humour. “You should ask Aamir that question. I was pretty attractive, right? Would you blame him if he was?” she joked. However, she clarified that their bond never became serious off screen. “There was a spark for sure, great chemistry, but did that spark bloom into anything tangible of consequence? I don’t think so,” she added.

Pooja Bhatt on Aamir Khan’s perfectionist nature

Pooja also reflected on Aamir’s involvement in every aspect of filmmaking, saying his perfectionist tendencies were visible even back then.“He is somebody who rehearses. He is somebody who is… Well, some people would say intrusive, some people would say extremely interested in every aspect of the film,” she shared.Recalling how Aamir would often question details on set, she added, “He would question, ‘Why are you wearing heels that are so big? That’s not the character.’”Despite that, Pooja said she learned a lot from him as an actor. “His precision, for example, as an actor, he is a precise actor,” she said.

The cap everyone mocked became a trend

The actress also revealed that Aamir’s famous cap in the film was his own idea and was initially dismissed by the team.“He was wrong about a lot of other things but he was right about one thing which was that cap,” she said, adding that Aamir had borrowed it from his nephew Imran.“We said, ‘Oh my god, you can’t wear this, it’s a child’s cap.’ But that cap became a rage, it was sold on every street corner,” she recalled.

‘We were like Tom and Jerry’

Describing their friendship, Pooja said she and Aamir constantly pulled each other’s leg on set.“He is not all-knowing and correct always, and we used to pull each other’s leg a lot. We were like Tom and Jerry in that sense,” she shared. At the time, Aamir Khan was married to his first wife Reena Dutta. The actor later married filmmaker Kiran Rao, before the two announced their separation in 2021. Aamir is currently dating Gauri Spratt.
