A Delhi court on Wednesday sent two accused in the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy, hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj and hotel accountant Jay Mishra, to 12 days of judicial custody.The order was passed by Judge Bhanu Pratap Singh following a request by the Delhi Police, which is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly blaze.The Delhi Police had earlier arrested the two accused alleging lapses related to safety measures and compliance at the hotel. Cook Keshav Negi was also arrested on June 8, with investigators alleging that his negligence contributed to the fire incident.Several other individuals associated with the establishment have also been detained and are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation into the fire.What’s the entire incident?The Malviya Nagar fire tragedy occurred on June 3 at the Flourish Stay B&B in Delhi’s Hauz Rani area. The blaze reportedly started in a restaurant and kitchen area on the lower floor before rapidly spreading through the multi-storey building, trapping guests inside.Many of those staying at the hotel were foreign nationals who had come to Delhi for medical treatment or to accompany patients admitted to nearby hospitals. Some guests reportedly jumped from windows in a desperate attempt to escape the flames and thick smoke.The incident initially claimed 22 lives and left several others injured. The tragedy has triggered a wider probe into the hotel’s management and compliance with building and fire regulations.
