Veteran actor S. I. Rajasekhar passed away at his residence in Chingavanam. The actor was widely recognised for his performances in films and television serials particularly for playing police officers. His frequent portrayal of sub-inspectors earned him the popular nickname “S. I. Rajasekhar.” The reason behind his demise has not been officially disclosed.Among those who expressed their grief was superstar Mammootty who shared a heartfelt message on social media.
Mammootty’s heartfelt Facebook post
Taking to his official Facebook page, Mammootty paid tribute to the late actor with a brief message in Malayalam.He wrote, “നടൻ എസ് ഐ രാജശേഖരന് ആദരാഞ്ജലികൾ.”Translated into English, the message reads, “Tributes to actor S. I. Rajasekhar.”

Mammootty’s post soon filled with messages from fans who recalled Rajasekhar’s memorable screen presence over the decades.One social media user wrote, “A familiar presence in Malayalam cinema from the 1980s until 2010. My heartfelt condolences, sir.” Another commented, “Heart felt condolences.”
A career spanning over 100 films
S. I. Rajasekhar built a prolific acting career that stretched across more than three decades. Beginning in the 1980s he appeared in over 100 Malayalam films while also establishing a presence on television through several serials.His final film appearance came in ‘Oru Second Class Yathra’, which was released in 2015.
Memorable collaborations with Mammootty and Joshiy
Rajasekhar frequently worked with director Joshiy, especially in films featuring Mammootty. Some of his notable collaborations include ‘Sandarbham’ (1984), ‘Rajavinte Makan’ (1986), ‘Nair Saab’ (1989), ‘No. 20 Madras Mail’ (1990), ‘Mudra’, ‘Vazhiyorakazchakal’, entries in the Sethurama Iyer CBI film series and ‘Thappana’ (2012).
Mammootty’s work front
On the other hand, Mammootty’s previous outing was the actioner ‘Patriot’ which was directed by Mahesh Narayanan. Mammootty will be teaming up with Tamil actor Dhanush for the upcoming Tamil movie ‘OM’ which is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy.
