Aamir Khan‘s close friend and Lagaan co-star Amin Hajee has shared some heartwarming details about the superstar’s private wedding to Gauri Spratt, giving fans a glimpse into the intimate celebration and Aamir‘s life away from the spotlight.Speaking to Rediff, Amin opened up about everything, from how Aamir first introduced Gauri to his closest friends to the actor’s growing bond with her five-year-old son Quinn. He also defended Aamir against criticism over his personal life, saying the actor has always handled his relationships with honesty and responsibility.
‘It felt like one big family’
Describing the wedding celebrations, Amin said what stood out the most was how warm and relaxed everything felt.“I think the best part was that we all met a day before the wedding, like how friends get together for lunch. It was a casual evening where Aamir had invited his closest friends. Gauri’s family was there too; they are such warm and wonderful people,” he said.According to Amin, there were no elaborate ceremonies or traditional rituals.“The wedding was held at Aamir’s home. We didn’t follow any traditional wedding rituals. Many people have asked if there was a sangeet or other ceremonies, but there weren’t. We simply spent time together, chatted, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company.”He also shared that Gauri’s father Robert “Bob” Spratt, her twin sister Shauna, and other family members attended the celebrations.
‘I think I’ve found my magic’
Amin revealed that Aamir told his closest friends about Gauri nearly a year before introducing her publicly.“About a year ago, Aamir invited a few of us to his home and said, ‘I want to talk to you about something.’ He told us there was someone special in his life. Aamir is a very emotional person, and I remember he had tears of joy in his eyes.”“He said, ‘I think I’ve found my magic.’”Amin said Aamir also spoke fondly about Quinn and the respect he had for both Gauri and her son from the very beginning.
‘He’s always moved on responsibly’
Amin also addressed the public conversation around Aamir’s past relationships with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, saying the actor deserves more credit than he gets.“I’ve known Aamir for over 35 years, and have always admired his respect for the institution of marriage. Many people become cynical after a failed relationship, but not him. He has always treated marriage with dignity.”He added, “People often joke about his personal life, but what they don’t see is how honest and fair he has been. Every time he has moved on in life, he has done so responsibly. He has always ensured that his former family and children were looked after. Very few people acknowledge this.”Amin also said he has personally seen Aamir go through heartbreak. “People make jokes about him finding love again after many years, but 15 years is a long time. I have seen him go through heartbreak. I have seen him cry. Relationships are never as simple as outsiders imagine.”
‘Gauri is an angel’
Talking about Gauri, Amin had nothing but praise.“She is an angel. She is a very mature and thoughtful person.”He recalled one conversation that stayed with him.“She told me, ‘I have a son who needs my attention and love. I have to make sure I find the right balance in this new phase of my life.’ That was such a responsible thing to say.”Amin also revealed that both Aamir and Gauri stood by him during a recent health scare. Before his heart procedure, Gauri comforted him by saying, “Whenever you sit quietly by yourself, remind yourself that everything will be fine.”After the surgery, he said, “She held my hand, looked into my eyes, and simply smiled. It was a small gesture, but meant a great deal to me.”
Aamir’s sweet bond with Quinn
One of the most touching moments Amin shared was about Aamir’s relationship with Quinn.“Quinn is only five years old, and he simply calls him ‘Aamir’. Their bond did not start recently, it has been like this for over a year.”He recalled an evening in Panchgani when Aamir was in the middle of an important conversation.“Then Quinn asked Aamir to read him a bedtime story. Without a second thought, Aamir looked at us and said, ‘Guys, I’ll be back,’ and immediately got up to read Quinn his bedtime story.”For Amin, moments like these perfectly capture who Aamir is beyond the cameras, a devoted partner, a caring father figure, and someone who makes time for the people who matter most.
