'I didn't know English at all': 'Lenin' star Bhagyashri Borse recalls being bullied after moving to Nigeria

Actress Bhagyashri Borse, fresh off the success of her Telugu film ‘Lenin,’ shared one of the most difficult phases of her childhood. The actress spoke candidly about being bullied when her family moved from Maharashtra to Nigeria while interacting with college students. She said the experience left a deep impact on her at a young age but also helped shape her into the confident person she is today. Her inspiring story has now struck a chord with many fans on social media.

Bhagyashri Borse recalls the bullying

During an interaction with students at Honest Town Hall, Bhagyashri Borse shared that she studied in a Marathi-medium school in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar before moving to Nigeria after her father got a job opportunity. Recalling the difficult transition, she said, “I didn’t know English at all then. I only knew Marathi, only knew Hindi, and all these NRI kids who are Indian kids around me were like, how does she not know English? So obviously, the bullying started. I was very innocent. It was just because I didn’t know the language.” Looking back at those days, she added, “I’ve been through bullying. I feel it’s all about tuning out the noise and focusing on what our goal is. It will be tough; it will hurt, but that pain will push you to grow. Honestly, without that, my English wouldn’t be this good. If they hadn’t bullied me because of my English, right? So I choose to see it that way. I believe every negative thing in our life helps make the positive even stronger.”

Bhagyashri Borse also pointed out that bullying is something many children experience for different reasons, whether it is their appearance, language, studies, or background. She could have let those experiences define her, but instead she used them as motivation to better herself. “It is contingent upon how you look at it. Every setback can be a lesson,” the actress believes. It is worth noting that her straightforward words have been much appreciated by many who praise her optimism in surmounting her difficult childhood experiences.

From humble beginnings to the success of ‘Lenin’

Bhagyashri Borse has always been determined and persistent. She comes from a lower-middle-class family and has spoken previously about her father’s struggle to find work when opportunities finally came their way. She started her career in modelling and advertisements, then moved to films and slowly made a mark in the industry. Recently, she was seen in the Telugu blockbuster ‘Lenin’ opposite Akhil Akkineni, which became the biggest commercial success of her career to date.
