Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas, how claimed to fame with the song ‘Jaye Sajana’ from Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ recently opened up about her first experience with menstruation. Speaking a podcast, she revealed that the lack of awareness around periods left her terrified as a young girl. The singer said she initially mistook her first period for a serious illness and believed she had cancer.

In an conversation with Hauterrfly, Jasmine shared that menstruation was never discussed at home before she reached puberty. Although her school later introduced the topic, she admitted that she was still unprepared when she got her first period.Recalling the incident, Jasmine said she was studying in Class 7 and living in New Jersey when it happened.” I thought I had cancer. I thought I was going to die. I was so scared. I didn’t know how to tell my mom,” Jasmine said. She added that many girls go through similar fear because they are not educated about menstruation at the right time. Reflecting on the experience, Jasmine said, “Periods are such a beautiful thing. But when you don’t know what’s happening to your body, it can be the scariest experience.”

The singer further also urged that parents should have an open conversations with their children about menstruation before they experience it for the first time.
