Soldier slips to death in J&K’s Rajouri

JAMMU: A 27-year-old Army jawan died after accidentally slipping from a height near the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Rajouri district on Wednesday.The deceased, Rifleman Sukhpreet Singh, was a native of Punjab and posted with JAK Rifles. He was on duty at Mahadev forward post in Sunderbani sector when he suddenly lost his balance and fell from a height, officials said.The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem. Police launched inquest proceedings. The remains will be taken to his native place for the last rites, officials said.In a similar tragedy last month, an Army officer died after slipping from a steep mountain ridge and plunging into a deep gorge on June 6 during Operation Sheruwali in Rajouri district. Lt Beereshwar Goswami was leading a search party along a narrow ridge when he lost footing and fell into the gorge. The anti-terror operation, which was launched in the dense forests of Rajouri’s Dorimal-Gambhir-Mughlan belt on May 23 to track two-three Pakistani ultras, is still underway.
