Stand-up comedian and actor Anubhav Singh Bassi recently shared his thoughts on the nationwide protests surrounding the NEET controversy, posting a heartfelt message on social media. In it, he praised Gen Z for their sharp wit and creative approach to protesting, while also voicing his support for the issues they’re raising.

On his Instagram Stories, Bassi posted a photo from Monday’s Chalo Sansad march in Delhi, during which police used lathi charges against a number of student protestors. The image captured a policeman swinging his lathi, while a female protestor held her ground, shielding fellow demonstrators from the blow.In the caption, he wrote, “Ye hamari waali generation nahi hai jo bachpan ki trauma jawani pe daale aur jawani ka budhape pe, easily manipulate nahi hote hein ye. ‘They have rights’ sun ke hi bade hue hein aur sharp toh ye behadd hain. ABCD se pehle ADHD pata chala he inhe, ye maante nahi he aasani se (This is not our generation who will dump their trauma of childhood on their youth and then on their old age. They are not easily manipulated and have grown up knowing about their rights. They are really sharp. Before ABCD they know what is ADHD. They cannot be told off easily).”
He added, “Aur creative ye itne hain ki 2 ghante mein rap bhi likh dete hein aur 10 minute mein meme tayyar hota hain inka. Humein inhe empathy aur sympathy se aage leke chalna chahiye, apathy se chid hein inhe. Hope their concerns are addressed (They are also really creative, writing a rap within two hours and creating memes within minutes. We must keep them ahead of empathy and sympathy, and not treat them with apathy).”
Officials and protestors give conflicting accounts
Delhi officials stated that protestors from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) turned unruly and aggressive during Monday’s demonstration in New Delhi, engaging in violent conduct. They allege that despite being repeatedly warned and given lawful instructions by police to disperse, the protestors ignored these directives and knowingly breached the prohibitory orders in place. On the other hand, protestors contend that Delhi Police acted indiscriminately against them, resulting in numerous injuries. Social media footage shows police using lathi charges and tear gas against the students, and protestors further claim that unidentified individuals in plain clothes, lacking police credentials, also assaulted them.
Nearly a month of protest at Jantar Mantar
The student-led protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been ongoing at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for close to a month now, with activist Sonam Wangchuk and other students later joining in and undertaking a hunger strike. Their central demand is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak and other exam-related irregularities, alongside broader calls for reforming the education system.
