Kunchacko Boban‘s latest Malayalam film ‘Unmadham’ is currently running in theatres after its release on July 31, 2026.Directed by Kiran Das in his feature film directorial debut, the movie is backed by a screenplay written by Shahi Kabir.
THIS OTT platform expected to bag the digital premiere
The makers have not yet announced the film’s official OTT release date. They have also not confirmed when the movie will become available for home viewing. However, the promotional poster of ‘Unmadham’ features the Sony LIV logo and it can be expected that the film may stream on the same platform after the theatrical run.
Cast and technical team behind the film
The film brings together a talented cast led by Kunchacko Boban. Lijomol Jose and Sudheesh also play important roles in the mystery thriller. The screenplay has been written by Shahi Kabir.Behind the camera, Arjun Sethu has handled the cinematography, while Mujeeb Majeed has composed the music. The editing has been completed by Kiran Das along with Jithin John.
What is ‘Unmadham’ about?
In the film, Kunchacko Boban plays Shelly, a police officer who dreams of becoming a successful screenwriter. His repeated failures to sell his scripts begin to affect both his confidence and his family life. Shelly’s wife Soumya, portrayed by Lijomol Jose, works hard to keep their household running while supporting his ambitions.Shelly eventually decides to return to police duty. Soon after rejoining, he is transferred following an assignment that does not go as planned. At his new station, he discovers an old case file connected to the suicide of a young woman under Section 174. The file has earned a disturbing reputation among police personnel, who believe that reopening it brings misfortune.Initially, Shelly sees the investigation as inspiration for a screenplay. However, the mystery gradually consumes him. His search for answers turns into a determined effort to uncover the truth behind the case and secure justice for the victim.
ETimes review praises the film’s execution
In its review, ETimes wrote, “It’s an awesome premise, and shows Shahi’s intelligence as a writer. State Award-winning editor Kiran shows his expertise in maintaining a good pace, while cinematographer Arjun Sethu’s frames make the audience feel very involved with the narrative.”
