When asked who had the biggest impact in his life, Rocky (born Rakim Athelston Mayers) did not hesitate to name Rihanna. Recalling the time his father passed away in 2012 while he was in Paris, the ‘Goldie’ singer said that the Grammy-winning singer was the first one to show up for him. “This don’t got nothing to do with her accolades or her money,” he said during a conversation with Jason Lee for The Jason Lee Show, before adding, “The truth of the matter is, when my dad died, she was there for me.” “Every time I’m at my lowest and darkest place, whether we’re just friends platonically or we’re in a couple relationship, she always f***in’ there for me,” he continued.During that time, Rocky’s album had hit the No. 1 spot, one of the biggest milestones. While Rihanna called him to congratulate, she rushed to his side. “My first album went No. 1; my dad died on Christmas. I was on my bathroom floor in Paris crying,” he recalled, and added, “She called me for some reason to congratulate me. We were both in Paris… Shorty rushed to [my side]. I don’t even know how Rihanna got the key to my room. I stopped answering my phone, and she walked right in, ‘Yo, you good?’ That really was my friend.”
