SC allowed TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to travel abroad for three weeks for medical treatment.

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Monday said every person has a fundamental right to travel abroad and a right to choose a hospital for treatment and permitted TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to go to a foreign country for three weeks for treatment for a ‘blunt trauma to his left cheek below the left eye’.“Every individual has a right to go abroad. Every individual has the right to choose medical assistance,” a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said.ASG S V Raju, appearing for the Bengal govt, said there were 16 cases pending against Banerjee and apprehended he may not come back. He said govt wanted him to be examined by a medical board. “If it is found that his medical condition warrants travel abroad, we will not object.”
