Adivi Sesh is set to take part in a series of Independence Day celebrations in New York as India prepares to mark its 80th Independence Day. The actor will be present at several prominent events across the city from August 14 to 16, including a special illumination of the Empire State Building, a flag-hoisting ceremony at Times Square and the India Day Parade. The celebrations will bring together Indian culture and patriotism at some of New York’s most recognisable landmarks, with the actor taking on a prominent role in the festivities.
A special tricolour moment at Empire State Building
Adivi Sesh’s Independence Day celebrations will begin on August 14 with a unique honour. The actor will join the CEO of the Empire State Building to operate the ceremonial lever that will light up the landmark in the colours of the Indian Tricolour.For him, the moment carries a strong personal connection. He recalled watching A.R. Rahman’s ‘Vande Mataram’ as a child on the Namaste America programme and said the upcoming ceremony brings back those early memories.Speaking to Bollywood Hungama about the occasion, the actor shared, “With regard to the 14th, me pulling the lever in the Empire State Building to the tricolour lights across the building, which is visible from anywhere in New York City, reminds me about how as a kid, for the first time on the Namaste America programme, I saw A.R. Rahman’s ‘Vande Mataram’, and I remember that whenever that song would come on, I would stand and watch. So there’s a certain childhood whimsical nostalgia that is involved that is actually based on my real life”.
Adivi Sesh to hoist Tricolour at Times Square
On August 15, the actor will be the Chief Guest at the ‘Harmony in Heritage – Times Square Flag Hoisting’ ceremony organised by the Federation of Indian Associations. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am EST and will feature Sesh alongside the Consul General of India for the hoisting of the Indian flag at Times Square. The programme will also include patriotic music and cultural performances celebrating India’s heritage.Adivi Sesh expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to participate in the ceremony. “It is truly an honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to hoist the Indian Tricolour at Times Square on Independence Day,” he said.
Actor to join India Day Parade
The celebrations will conclude on August 16 with the India Day Parade on Madison Avenue. Sesh will participate in the parade as part of the America 250 float, where he will be joined by elected officials.From the main podium, the actor is also expected to greet the 55 floats taking part in the parade.

Speaking about the significance of being part of the celebrations, the actor said the Indian flag carries a much larger meaning than simply being a national symbol.
