During the D23 Expo, fans got a glimpse of many upcoming projects. From Marvel unveiling the new ‘X-Men’ cast to releasing the trailer of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ a lot of new and upcoming projects have been confirmed. This now includes ‘Coco 2,’ confirmed for release in 2029. Here is what we know so far about the upcoming release.
‘Coco 2’ confirmed for 2029 release
During the expo, the production house behind the first film announced that ‘Coco 2’ is on the way. Showing a few image teasers for the upcoming animated film, Benjamin Bratt, who played Ernesto De La Cruz in the first film, revealed he will reprise his role in the second film. The images showed glimpses of Miguel as a teenager accompanied by his beloved dog, Dante. Another image showed Miguel facing off with De La Cruz.Bratt got on stage and announced the project to all attendees, revealing more details about the animated film. Videos of the event have gone viral online, showing Bratt saying, “To some, Miguel is a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy. Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the land of the dead. Proving fate has a sense of humor, Miguel must team up with a handsome superstar: me.” He also confirmed that director Lee Unkrich, who worked on the first film, will return to direct the second film as well. Adrian Molina has also been attached to direct the film.He also announced that the official release date has been set for November 2029.
‘Coco’ plot summary
The first film, released in 2017, shows Miguel wanting to play music; however, his family’s past prevents him from doing so. When he steals a guitar that belonged to the late Ernesto De La Cruz, he is transported to the Land of the Dead. Sacnilk reports at the time revealed that the film made USD 800 million at its box office and was a big commercial success as well when it was released online.
