Punjab was pushed to the brink in 2025, as flooding swept through the state, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Actor Akshay Kumar reportedly pitched in to help during the crisis, and those efforts are now finally coming to fruition.

Akshay Kumar sponsored 100 homes for flood victims

Gurpreet Ghuggi, who has shared screen space with Akshay in films such as ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and ‘Cuttputtli’, tells Hindustan Times that the actor stepped forward to sponsor the construction of 100 homes for those affected by the floods. “He got in touch with me last year, asking how can he help. At that time, people were getting enough assistance with the food supplies, it was in excess. I suggested to him that the real help would be needed post the floods, for those whose houses got destroyed and swept away.“

Akshay Kumar’s pledge nears completion

Akshay went on to pledge support for building 100 houses in total, of which 80 have been completed so far. Ghuggi adds, “Since I am from Punjab, I know the area, I assembled a team to identify the people in need. These houses are mostly in the Gurdaspur and Amritsar district villages. The work on the pending houses will get completed soon. It was all Akshay paaji’s doing.”This initiative was carried out under Akshay’s Hari Om Foundation, set up in memory of his late father. “Akshay paaji may be on screen Haiwaan, real life mein he’s a true insaan. I just helped him like a friend. Voh nahi chahte the unka naam saamne aaye. He said ‘Isme koi badi baat nahi hai. Jo aadmi kar sakta hai, kar raha hai. Help karna, aur phir logon ko batana… mujhe theek nahi lagta’,” recalls Ghuggi.

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘Haiwaan’

On the work front, Akshay Kumar’s next release is ‘Haiwaan’, which brings together Saif Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, Pahal Chaudhary and Manoj Joshi in key roles. The psychological thriller is directed by Priyadarshan, with music composed by Pritam, and has been jointly produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films under Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn. Its theatrical release is scheduled for September 11, 2026.
