Was Santhosh Narayanan taking a dig at Sai Abhyankkar? Composer clarifies his ‘Mannaru’ video

Composer Santhosh Narayanan has addressed the online discussion around his recent video featuring Mannar Muthu. The composer appeared in a light-hearted interaction with Mannar Muthu and spoke about creating an unplugged version of their recently released track ‘Mannaru.’ His playful approach quickly caught the attention of social media users, but what started as a joke soon turned into an unexpected controversy.

Santhosh Narayanan clarifies his post was not aimed at Sai Abhyankkar

The composer’s comments began by drawing comparisons with Sai Abhyankkar, who has gained attention for sharing unplugged versions of his popular songs. Some users interpreted Santhosh’s video as an indirect dig at the young composer. As the discussion grew and negative comments started appearing, Santhosh decided to clear the air. Responding in the comments section, he said, “To one and all gathered here… my video was a humorous self-dig at a desperate attempt to have an unplugged version. Not aimed at anyone else or Sai. I love his music and support it. Also, when my dig is aimed at someone, it will be pretty apparent with names.

Composer Sean Roldan comes out in support of Santhosh Narayanan

Santhosh’s clarification also received support from fellow composer Sean Roldan. After noticing that some users were tagging him along with abusive comments, Sean took to X to explain his understanding of the situation. He said he has known Santhosh for several years and felt the video was simply friendly banter, with no intention to target another artiste. Sean also urged people to take the joke in the right spirit. He stressed that artistes may have differences of opinion, but that does not mean there is hatred between them, adding that everyone should “just chill.”

‘Mannaru’ continues to get attention after its release

The entire episode has brought fresh attention to ‘Mannaru,’ which has been gaining traction following its release. Santhosh’s decision to present a playful “Oppari” version of the track was initially meant to celebrate its response humorously. However, the social media interpretation shifted the focus towards a supposed rivalry that the composer has now clearly denied. With Santhosh Narayanan stating that he respects Sai Abhyankkar and enjoys his music, the composer appears keen to put the speculation to rest and move the conversation back to the music itself.
