At a time when team ‘Ramayana’ is making waves for using the latest in AI-tech to dub the Nitesh Tiwari film in multiple languages, director SS Rajamouli is reportedly going the traditional route for ‘Varanasi’.

SS Rajamouli ditches AI use in ‘Varanasi’

As per the latest reports, the director is going all out to get the Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer to audiences across the world. For this, the director is planning to dub the film in around 50 languages and release it across 120 countries, states a report on Mid-Day.However, instead of relying on AI technology to dub the film, the director is reportedly set to use real voice artistes and will reportedly audition as many as 1,500 artistes before selecting the official voices for his lead characters.

This decision comes shortly after the director recently shared his stand for performance-driven material. According to the publication, “For him, dubbing is not just about translating the dialogue and matching the lip movements. Rajamouli wants the audience in every market to experience the performance, not just know the dialogue.”

Rajamouli has also been vocal about his opposition to the use AI in filmmaking. Amid speculation that he used AI for the first glimpse of ‘Varanasi’, which showcased expansive views of the African wilderness, the filmmaker dismissed the allegations, calling it a “huge insult to their artistic genius.”With the film reportedly targeting 120 countries, it would set it up to become one of the widest international releases for an Indian production, surpassing even Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, which was released across 100 countries in 2023.
