During one segment of the concert at the Midland Theatre in Kansas City, Mo, on August 27, Vince Gill remembered Dolly Parton, his close friend with whom he had collaborated in the past.He shared just how great Dolly was and how he and his entire family were devastated and “crushed” to hear the news of her passing. For context, Gill and Parton recorded their own version of ‘I Will Always Love You.’To pay his respects and remember her legacy, Gill got on stage and took to the piano to perform one of Parton’s and everyone else’s favourite songs, ‘I Will Always Love You.’ While trying to continue the song to remember Dolly, Gill was seen breaking down in tears and choking up. The crowd continued to cheer him on as he finished the song with some difficulty. Videos and photos of the event were extensively shared online.He also earlier shared a tribute post on his Instagram account for Dolly, writing, “We are all crushed here at our house. One of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard was when Dolly and I sang that last note of ‘I Will Always Love You’ the year we performed it on the CMA Awards.” He posted the caption along with a video of them from the CMA Awards singing the beloved song together.
