Mukul Dev‘s untimely demise at the age of 54 left the film industry and audiences grieving last year. About two months after his death, the Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur comic caper ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ (2025) hit screens, featuring him in a significant role, which many assumed would be his last on-screen appearance. That assumption, however, turns out to be incorrect, as the late actor is set to appear once more in the upcoming spy comedy ‘Udta Teer’.

According to Bollywood Hungama, a major chunk of ‘Udta Teer’ was shot in 2024, and that’s when Mukul Dev filmed his portions. His character has a face-off with Ayushmann Khurrana’s character. His track is not only funny but also action-packed and forms an important part of the narrative. As always, Mukul’s performance is spot-on and is sure to be loved by the audience.

Ayushmann and Sara Ali Khan lead the cast of ‘Udta Teer’, which was originally set for a September 11 release before being moved to October 9. The film brings together Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor’s Sikhya Entertainment, marking their latest collaboration after ‘Kill’ (2024), ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ (2024) and ‘The Lunchbox’ (2013).With ‘Udta Teer’, Akash A Kaushik steps into directing for the first time, while the film also reunites Ayushmann and Sara, who previously worked together in ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ (2026), released earlier this year.

Mukul Dev’s journey from pilot training to acting

Born in Delhi, Mukul initially trained as a pilot at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi before turning to acting. His career began with television serials, and around the same period, he bagged a role in Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Dastak’ (1996). He went on to feature in several notable films, including ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ (2005), ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ (2011), ‘Son Of Sardaar’ (2012), ‘R…Rajkumar’ (2013), and ‘Jai Ho’ (2014), among others.

Mukul Dev passed away on May 23, 2025, following roughly a week of hospitalisation. About a month later, his younger brother, actor Rahul Dev, told Bombay Times, “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life. Usko zindagi jeene ka jazba nahi tha. He would turn down several work offers.“
