Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly exploring new opportunities with British broadcasters. Their possible return to the UK television market could include a project with the BBC. According to reports published by RadarOnline.com, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are considering different television formats. Documentaries and factual entertainment are reportedly among the projects being discussed.The reports come after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to Britain from California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The couple is reportedly expected to spend more time in the UK while retaining their Montecito home.
Potential BBC collaboration could concern the Palace
A possible BBC partnership could reportedly create tension within the Royal Family. A senior royal source claimed that King Charles could be particularly unhappy if the project focused on private matters involving the royals.Report from the portal says, “The prospect of Harry and Meghan working with the BBC would inevitably cause anxiety at the Palace. Charles has been trying to rebuild his relationship with his son privately, and the last thing he wants is another television project generating headlines about the Royal Family. If it became another vehicle for discussing private royal matters, he would be furious.”The reported concerns come amid continued speculation about the relationship between Prince Harry and his father. A television project involving the Sussexes could once again place the Royal Family at the centre of public discussion.However, there is currently no confirmation that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have finalized an agreement with the BBC.
Sussexes could pursue smaller UK projects
The couple’s reported return to Britain could give them greater access to local production companies. It could also provide opportunities outside the large streaming deals they previously pursued.A report by RadarOnline.com suggested that the Sussexes could now consider individual productions with British broadcasters.The report says, “Being back in Britain completely changes the landscape for Harry and Meghan. They don’t need another gigantic Netflix-style agreement. They can potentially make individual programs with the BBC or commercial broadcasters and retain much greater freedom over what they produce.”Prince Harry and Meghan Markle previously signed a reported USD 100 million agreement with Netflix. Their partnership resulted in several documentaries and entertainment projects.One of their most prominent releases was ‘Harry & Meghan’. The six-part documentary arrived in 2022 and focused on their relationship, royal experiences and decision to step away from official duties.The couple later released ‘Heart of Invictus’ in 2023. The five-part documentary followed athletes competing in the Invictus Games founded by Prince Harry.In 2024, ‘Polo’ offered viewers an inside look at elite polo competitions in Wellington, Florida.
Several projects were cancelled or ended
Not every project linked to the Sussexes reached audiences. Meghan Markle’s planned animated series ‘Pearl’ was among the projects that failed to move forward. Another proposed production was an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel ‘Meet Me at the Lake’. The project was also ultimately not released.The couple’s reported USD 20 million Spotify partnership ended in 2023. Meghan Markle’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast was the primary project released under that deal and ran for 12 episodes.Their more recent projects include ‘With Love, Meghan’, a lifestyle and cooking series hosted by Meghan Markle. The show expanded to two seasons and a holiday special in 2025. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also been involved with ‘Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within’. The short documentary, produced through Archewell, highlights Ugandan dancers.
