Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sang Kishore Kumar’s Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat at the Brics gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday.Ibrahim shared a video of the performance on his X account, showing him singing the Kishore Kumar classic as a pianist played the song during the dinner.This is not the first time Ibrahim has publicly expressed his admiration for Kishore Kumar. The Malaysian prime minister has previously spoken about being a fan of the legendary singer and had also sung the same song during an interview in India in 2024.The song, from the 1965 Hindi film Teen Devian, was sung by Kishore Kumar and composed by S D Burman, with lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It remains one of Kishore Kumar’s enduring romantic classics, known for its distinctive melody and evocative lyrics.Earlier on Saturday, Ibrahim held a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on the sidelines of the 18th Brics Summit. During their interaction, the Malaysian prime minister also highlighted PM Modi’s popularity.“See, Prime Minister Modi is so popular; I got so many messages to pass on regards to him,” Ibrahim said.Malaysia participated in the Brics Leaders’ Summit as a Brics Partner Country at PM Modi’s invitation. The Malaysian foreign ministry said the summit is the “highest-level platform of Brics”, bringing together leaders to discuss global governance, sustainable development, economic cooperation, trade and investment, digital transformation and challenges facing developing countries.Ibrahim was scheduled to deliver a national statement on “Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth”, with Malaysia expected to push for stronger cooperation among Brics members and partner countries.The gala dinner also featured a cultural performance, “Navarasa– The Universe of Shared Emotions”, and the Brics Symphony, “One Rhythm, Many Cultures”, bringing together musicians from member and partner countries.
