The Marathi film ‘Gondhal,’ which has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2027 Oscars, is now set to reach a wider audience beyond Maharashtra as the film will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with the dubbing process already completed. Moreover, the team is now preparing to make an official announcement about the multilingual release. In an exclusive conversation with the movie’s editor, Ashish Mhatre, he revealed that the team has already completed the dubbed versions and is now working toward announcing the release details. “There is a Hindi and Tamil and Telugu version of this film. So, they are working on that as well. The process is done. They will announce it in a few days,” he confirmed.While the film is expanding its reach across languages, the makers have decided to keep its theatrical experience at the center of their release strategy. Mhatre revealed that ‘Gondhal’ will not be released on OTT soon. “They have decided that they won’t release it on OTT. Because they want to show their film on the screen,” he said.Explaining why the makers want audiences to experience the film in theaters, Mhatre added, “Because what happens on the mobile and the TV? They show it on the small screen. The mind gets diverted.”He believes the film can be enjoyed differently when watched on a larger screen and in a theatrical environment. “So, if you watch this film alone, people will enjoy it,” he said.

Santosh Davakhar directorial, ‘Gondhal’ originally released in Indian theaters on November 14, 2025. The film features an ensemble cast of Marathi actors. Kishor Kadam, Poonam Patil, Pravin Dalimbkar, and Suresh Vishwakarma are among the principal cast members, while Kailash Waghmare, Ishita Deshmukh, and Madhavi Juvekar also feature in important roles. Amalendu Chaudhary is the cinematographer, while Ashish Mhatre has handled the editing. The film has been produced by Diksha Davakhar, Santosh Davakhar, Jayesh Sawant, and Ravindra Navle under the banner of Davakhar Films.With ‘Gondhal,’ Marathi cinema now has four films that have been selected as India’s official Oscar submission.
