Delhi protests: SC to hear plea seeking contempt action against authorities on Sunday

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear on Sunday a plea seeking contempt action against authorities for allegedly violating its October 9 direction in connection with the protests in Delhi, PTI reported.The national capital witnessed a major security clampdown on Saturday as police detained thousands of protesters seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. Police had denied permission for the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar, citing procedural and law-and-order concerns. Opposition leaders, activists, students and lawyers were among those detained as police enforced barricades and restrictions across parts of the city.(More details awaited)
