Actress Sri Gouri Priya received huge appreciation for her 2026 romance drama Telugu film, ‘Chennai Love Story’. Recently, the actress opened up about her success in Tamil cinema despite it not being her mother tongue. From struggling to learn the language to becoming a familiar face in Tamil cinema, she says the industry has warmly accepted her.
Sri Gouri Priya’s Tamil cinema connection
While speaking with Hindustan Times, Sri Gouri Priya shared that her connection with Tamil cinema started when she was very young. She said, “As a child, I was too young to understand the difference between Telugu and Tamil films, as many dubbed films would release here,” she said. She also added, “A lot of my childhood favourite films are Tamil dubs.”
Sri Gouri Priya talks about her learning Tamil
Gouri grew up in Secunderabad and says learning Tamil was difficult at first. She had already heard many Tamil songs in their Telugu dubbed versions while growing up.“When I was younger, I would sing a lot of Telugu songs that were actually dubbed from Tamil. Later, I used to listen to them in the original language to understand the meaning,” she said.The ‘Lover’ actress also said that she became more interested in Tamil cinema during the pandemic. “During the pandemic, I started watching films in the original language too. That brought me closer to Tamil cinema.”

The actress further shared that she never thought she would become part of the Tamil film industry. When she was first approached for a Tamil film, she could not understand the language properly. But things changed after she started working in Tamil films.Sri Gouri Priya says Tamil audiences have accepted her warmly. “A lot of Telugu people actually think I’m a Tamilian who came to Tollywood, but that’s not the case. I’m just a Telugu girl who did a little well in Tamil,” she said.Currently, the actress is taking a small break after a busy period. She added that she is listening to scripts after a rough and overwhelming work last year.
Sri Gouri Priya’s next film
Speaking of her upcoming project, her next Tamil film is ‘Bro Club’, earlier titled ‘Bro Code’. Directed by Karthik Yogi, the film features SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Shraddha Srinath and Malavika Manoj.
