Hayden Panettiere’s passing has sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry. Fellow actor Justin Chatwin, who costarred with Hayden on her last film before her untimely passing on August 16, recently opened up about the kind of star she was and how his experience was working with her.

While talking to PEOPLE, Justin Chatwin, who has also appeared in projects like ‘Shameless,’ ‘War of the Worlds,’ and ‘The Invisible,’ opened up about how it was like to work with the ‘Nashville’ star. She shared, “We hit it off great, and it was an awesome shoot, but it was about domestic abuse, and it was subject matter that may have hit close to home, because she did mention it. She opened up to me about a lot of things.”He also mentioned that she seemed different to him when he last met her. He added, “Hayden seemed different when I met her this time than when I met her in the early years. I’ve been sober for 15 years, so I know this world of addiction and Hollywood—it takes, and it takes from youth.” The two had first met while she was filming ‘Heroes’ and had later co-starred in ‘Sleepwalker,’ which was released earlier this year.He further added in the interview that she seemed lonely and it felt like something had gone wrong in her life. “I could tell she was struggling, and I was like, ‘I don’t think it’s this movie.’ There’s a handful of women that I’ve worked with that I really liked, and I really loved working with her, but I also know that she was really lonely,” he said.

During the interview he added that she was one of the few stars that he absolutely loved acting with on set. He added, “I’m sure that everyone else is going to say, ‘Oh, she’s amazing.’ She’s such a sweet person on set, because she was, but we’re trained to be actors, so we’re acting on set, you know? And she is sweet. She had a beautiful heart. But we’re trained to be on, and I really liked spending time with her because she took that off, and she was authentic with me about her life, and she opened up about her struggles with addiction. And who knows where it comes from? Does it come from Hollywood? Does it come from home? And a lot of times, it’s both.”Hayden had stepped away from acting in 2018 after finalizing her filming for the show ‘Nashville.’ She had returned to the big screen in 2023 with the ‘Scream’ franchise and had appeared in three more films. She also released her memoir earlier this year, in which she opened up about dealing with depression, addiction, and postpartum issues after the birth of her daughter, Kaya. She also revealed that she was bisexual and that she had a lot left in life to live for.
