This quote is directly from the filmmaker and actor’s book titled ‘Woody Allen on Woody Allen: In Conversation with Stig Björkman.’ The quote essentially says that it is important to appreciate what you already have, rather than focusing on what you do not. While it is human nature to appreciate things you have not yet achieved more, it often results in people forgetting the things they once worked hard to achieve. He acknowledges that one should never stop striving for success and goals; however, the key to success is remembering where you came from—your roots. When happiness is attached to what you don’t have, the finish line keeps moving. Obtaining the missing piece simply creates a new desire, leaving you forever dissatisfied with life.At the end of the day, focusing on existing relationships, current health, or present comforts and things you have anchors you in the moment. It transforms routine aspects of life into sources of genuine joy and helps you understand that you need a balance of wanting more, while also appreciating what you already have.
